About me

I am a musician living and working in Purley on Thames, Berkshire, England, with experience in many musical styles and organisations.

My main interest is in composition, and this site lists a number of my musical works which are available for sale - and many free.   Most of the music has been successfully performed by choirs, schools, churches, groups and solo performers. Recent commissions include Jauchzet dem Herrn, Alle Welt and A Dream Within A Dream for Ensemble Nobiles. and two R L Stevenson songs (Song of the Wind and Looking-Glass River) for Sjaella.  My most recent composition is The Send Off, The End, a setting of two poems by Wilfred Owen, which will be performed by Gratis Choir in a commemoration of the centenary of the end of the First World War.  These are all available from the "Choral" link above.

I am the conductor of Gratis Choir, based in the Reading area and I have been a member of a number of choirs in my local area.   For many years, I was a member of the BBC Symphony Chorus, singing a large and challenging repertoire in many concerts, both in the UK and abroad, and in recording sessions each year.   In the past I have also sung with local choral societies and have been the conductor of choirs, choruses and orchestras.I am experienced in playing the piano as an accompanist for soloists on various instruments and for singers.   I have also played with local orchestras, both on the piano and on percussion.

I trained as a music teacher, gaining a BEd degree from the University of Oxford in 1976, and have taught piano, music theory and aural work successfully.

I am married and have three children - all now adult, living and working in Reading and Oxford - and three grandsons.   My wife taught for many years in a local primary school.
