This is a musical which relates in an exciting way how poor children were treated in the Victorian era and how reformers worked to free them from their often dreadful work, establishing schools to educate them.
Songs cover such subjects as chimney sweeps, house maids, factory and mill workers, match girls and farm hands – and one song describes life for privileged children. Then there are songs about Dr Barnado, the Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, the reformers and school life.
Dialogue is also included, with some passages directly quoting real people and events of the times.
